In-situ leaching (ISL) is an alternative to conventional mining methods
In-situ leaching is a mining method which is widely used in the uranium industry in Kazakhstan. It is also used in other countries for copper and gold mining.
The entire mining process occurs underground and involves leaching the ore with a special solution and extracting the pregnant solution containing the target metal to the surface. The pregnant solution is processed at the plant by filtration and precipitation. This does not involve any melting, combustion or heating processes.
